District Matters

May: 25 May 2018

We hope you are finding this new email format of District Matters informative and practical with very rare repetitive content. Our aim is to keep these emails brief with additional details linked to our website. A few notes to remember in regards to this:

  • The current version of District Matters is always available at www.guidesqld.org/districtmatters
  • Distributed fortnightly on Fridays
  • Distributed to all Adult Members (Managers do not need to forward to their teams)
  • Use the “Print this Page” link above for a printed copy of the communication (handy for District and Region Meetings)
  • To request content to be included in District Matters email seo@guidesqld.org

National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week, where all across Australia people just like you are being celebrated for everything they do in giving their time to others. This year’s theme is “Give a little. Change a lot.” which represents the profound impact volunteers can have in their communities and on society through giving even just a little bit of time. The hard work of every single adult Member and volunteer in Guides is vital to the success of our organisation – remember without you, there would be no Guides at all.

So, from all of us to all of you, a very heartfelt thank you for your dedication, time, energy, enthusiasm and above all, your passion for Guiding. We are proud to have such a wonderful group of volunteers here in Queensland and look forward to sharing many more years together with you. Read More...

New Support Group Members and Blue Card Compliance

As Districts have now all had their Annual General Meetings there are numerous new Support Group Members all over the State which is fantastic. Every Support Group Member should have a compliant Blue Card, which means they have a current Blue Card that is linked with Girl Guides Queensland.

Members without a compliant card will need to complete a ‘New/Renewing Blue Card’ form or a ‘Link an Applicant’ form if they have a current card through another organisation. Once the form has been completed by the Support Group Member and signed by the District Manager, please send to bluecard@guidesqld.org for processing and submitting to Blue Card Services.

Insurance Payments

All Districts should have received their insurance invoices by now. Please take note of the due dates on the invoices and contact finance@guidesqld.org if you have any problems or queries.

Need more biscuits?

State Office has a limited quantity of stock available for districts to place another order. You will need to organise pickup of stock and all previous biscuit deliveries to be paid in full. For more information or to place another order, email Jo at biscuits@guidesqld.org.

Biscuit Payments

If you are unable to make complete payment of your biscuit invoices by the due date, you are required to make regular fortnightly payments with all balances due to be paid before 31 July.

Advertising your Biscuits Online

If you would like to add your biscuit event or contact details to either of the GGA or GGQ website pages, complete the relevant forms at www.guidesqld.org/biscuits

Unidentified Payments

Girl Guides Queensland (GGQ) has over $7,000 in unidentified direct deposits that cannot be processed due to reasons that can be easily overcome with your help. As Leaders who distribute the current membership forms containing the bank account and reference details, it is imperative that you check the below documents to claim paperwork or money that may belong to your Unit.

Please forward all queries and/or membership forms to membership@guidesqld.org.

Update from Community Development Officer

We have had some fantastic events recently and more are on the horizon. If you are planning an event to attract new members or would like support with any marketing activities, please contact Caitlin at caitlink@guidesqld.org

96 Live Broadcast
96five family radio station in Brisbane hosts live broadcasts from schools on Fridays during the school term. Brisbane North attended the first event, and experienced great results, with lots of enquiries and promotion on air for Girl Guides Queensland. There are more events planned and Caitlin will inform you when an event is happening in your area.

The Power of Social Media Advertising
Two successful Come and Try Days have been run with both events created through the Girl Guides Queensland Facebook page (with co-hosts from that Region added as event administrators). This allows Girl Guides to see the level of engagement these events attracted and also enables Caitlin to provide support with updating content, promotion and responding to enquiries. Both events attracted over 20 enquiries, with social media proving to be the best promotion method. If you have an event coming up that is open to the public, please contact Caitlin about advertising through Facebook.

New Volunteer Membership Application Form

A New Volunteer Membership Application form has been created to capture essential information about people who are volunteers with our organisation but are not PAID members.

This form replaces the old QF.SG.01 Support Group Membership Application form which is now obsolete.

The information on the form will be recorded on the database and help us maintain important practices such as Blue Card compliance, streamlining processes and communication. The Volunteer Members who this form applies to are those members such as support group, parent volunteers, bank signatories and casual volunteers. District or Region Managers, please ensure all new Volunteers complete this form. Please send the completed form to membership@guidesqld.org

Members who Cannot Access the Database

Since the upgrade to the database in December 2017, ALL Members were requested to reset their password due to security and PCI compliance. We will be sending out a communication next week to those who haven’t yet logged on with easy instructions on how to reset a password. Using the website will be easier and faster to access resources, complete event registrations and pay membership.

If you are having trouble logging in please email membership@guidesqld.org or click the ‘forgot my password’ button.
